If you mean in the Classified section above the I think its fine to post wanted ads! I have in the past, though only for parts!
You would have to ask Rob for a definate answer however! (pre67vw:wink: )
Posted by: pre67vw - 05 February 2009 17:44:14
I'd rather classifieds and wanted ads were in one place, so I'd rather you posted it in the classifieds section. 8)
Posted by: lifeintheslowlane - 05 February 2009 17:48:36
The Samba is very strict about posting ads in the Forums...strictly a no-go. Any posted are removed as soon as they're spotted so The Classifieds are they only place for them.
Posted by: 54 Gertie - 05 February 2009 18:01:57
What did you have in mind for an oval?
Early, late, original, lowered [-x  ?
There are alot of 50s beetles for sale at the moment, just depends what you want!

I agree. And Rob has told us before that the classifieds section, although it seems static actually gets LOTS of hits. I would say the 'cars wanted forum' on v*i is good for that too.

Not to mention this sort or economic climate....
For example there is a lovely, solid, UK, Fjord blue 58 that is for sale for pennies, literally you see rotten 1303s for more but it is just not selling!
It has been slightly lowered but the guy, to his credit, has kept ALL of the OG bits and has not cut anything! Unlike many that take a plasma cutter to a 50 year old beam...[-x
Its a shame really that all my money is tied up in my currently "in bits" 63 or I would snap his hand off!
Stu, Cant find anything "Stock" at the moment for sale! What a suprise! I'll keep looking but all I can seem to find are RHD oval "racer" projects that are half done! (half hacked to feath! )
I'll keep my eye out!8)

I think that's just down to the current exchange rate. 3 years ago that would have been about £5,500 which doesn't sound as bad as £6,900 at the moment!
I think you should be able to find something 'really' nice if you are prepared to pay £7,000+ but if you're after a bargain, it's just a case of being lucky and finding a car that's not been advertised everywhere.
What's your budget?

If its the car I think it is then it must have had a rhd swap too as it was a leftie, such an easy swap on a split though that it probably is. A really super solid car with the correct 3 fold grafted in long ago, but only solid because it has already had a lot of work done to it and not a car for you I dont think  But it is a very good base car for a racecar/modified project as I think there is no welding to do at all, and an easy build for someone else as I believe the current/and or last owner collected a lot of parts for it. ( thats all If it IS the car I think it is) but sunroof splits in red primer are not exactly common even with grafted in roofs.

Did you buy??? You don't get a lot of Oval for £2k nowadays. Hope it's a good one.
no, its coolair thats selling it, it was up for 3k, but i got it down to 2k, i had a good look over it & it needs virtually everything doing, its had new heater channels & floorpans, but the work is pretty poor, still needs more welding, has wrong panels, wrong interior & the wiring needs to be seen to be beleived

I know of a few nice Ovals that the owners could be persuaded to sell.
What is the top end of your budget?
Well it is a 54! and it certainly is cheap so far, and just a few miles from me, but dont worry I dont want it.
It has been fairly recently registered in this country on that plate, but it sounds to me like he is talking about the handbrake being adjustable through the front end of the tunnel? I'm sure its easily fixable but certainly not 'a rare handbrake system' cheeky bugger!

That car is in Belgium where else??
8000 euro (7150 £)is for free for that car ! If you would sell the extras you would get some nice £££ for these items ! Why buying a car from 5000 or less, and then you need to invest a few thousend more to make it driveble ! And what have you then a complete restored car that IMO is less worth then a never restored original car ! This car need a good cleaning, and you can drive it for years without any problem ,all mechanical parts are rebuilded ! a few years ago !
Oh yeh The first owner was a guy who was repairing Clocks, you still can see that at the dash, he was never to late at a appointment !

You should have bought it! He who dares wins. But its a long way to bring a car home from Sweden and not cheap anymore. I really like the look of this car, its the fantastic dark metallic 53 only I think? blue like the one at Beaulieu with red & blue wheels. Tip Top colour choice!
For me an MOT is not even a factor when looking for a 60yr old car if its original and solid I could'nt care less about an mot. There are dozens of ovals with MOTs on vz* that neither you or I would even be interested in or trust their mot's!
You will probably see 20 stratos cars (also nice of course) for every one that comes up og in this colour in fact I would far prefer this colour to my beige
And look how non rusty the front valance is! 5k for a 53 in this colour that you dont need to start buying metal for and restoring seems like a good deal to me, look at the work and £ JR is having to put into his 53's! at the end of the day you simply cannot beat a car with og metal and zero or only a few small repairs :d

Its Sahara Beige L272, only available for 9 months from March '53 onwards..........
Haven't got many decent photos as it has sat in my garage for almost 2 years now waiting to get the time to start the resto, so it looks terrible  .
Apart from the engine lid which I put on the car as it didn't have a 'w' lid when bought everything else is 'as found', having spent almost 20 years in a farm barn.
All the wings are bashed and dented, but 3 out of the 4 are the factory originals, it is a matching numbers vehicle and has always been a UK car.

It has had a (bad) exterior respray in the distant past and the resulting shade is too light, the interior paint is all OG and is a much creamier coffee-like colour.
I'd never been fond of beige cars (cue the hearing aid beige comments  ) but I like this colour and am itching to get the resto started .........

It was a tad over 2K, which I thought at the time was a very fair price 8) , though looking back think it was cheap! :d
Went to view it whilst the auction was live and there were loads of people going to view it just whilst we were there, was convinced it was going to go for silly money :( .

Having restored a rusty '60s Karmann Ghia and 70s Beetles before it is amazingly solid; think VW really knew how to make cars back then!
Apart from all the bashes and dents (caused by farm machinery during its 20 year lay-up) all it needs are 2 patches under the rear seat and some attention to the o/s front inner wing; heater channels and floorpan are very good.
Hope to get it started later this year!

That car is from a close friend !
If you would sell the accesories! You have a car for less then 5000£ But you would have a few holes in the dash ! Do you realize what a dehne fiel meter costs these day's ? I think you could be very surprised, I would be interested in the glove box door with clock ! And the rabambus is also on my wanted list !
The car is close to zeebrugge , so check the car or ship the car is no problem !
Believe me that is a very good car ! and worth every cent, he's asking for the car !
If it was mine it would be for sale for more !

I'm not being funny, but I think you either have to stump up the cash and buy a solid car - or if you don't have the budget, buy something that needs some work. I think you're hoping for a really solid original oval that's cheap, but they're not around. I don't think the recession has had any impact on prices at all yet, and you'll probably have to wait another year or so for that to happen if it does.

I knew that car MANY moons ago before any work was carried out on it. It was a beautifully original UK car (but it needed a fair bit of welding) that turned up in Cradley Heath in the West Midlands. I was offered it for £1200 and turned it down, but hey, that was about 1995. It's a nice car for someone who has the time to restore it.

£5K buys you very little now.Think you are going to have to be willing to take some work on.
