The famous old Swiss car scrapyard in Kaufdorf is holding an auction of over 800 cars on 19th September. Sad I reckon as the place should have been left as it is but knowing Switzerland I bet government bureaucracy is enforcing a clean up. Have a look here: https://marktplatzoldtimergalerie.oldtimer-info.ch/default.afp And here for the complete car listing: https://www.oldtimergalerie.ch/e/auction/September09.htm 34 Volkswagens are listed (8 Splits inc a 49 std, 3 Ovals and a 55 Ghia) There's also a 57 Cabrio  Not seen pics of this one before (Dave you need to buy it for the semaphore boxes! ): Besides the 2 Porsche 356 A's that you always see pics of there's a 57 356A Cabriolet in there! However, my pick and I'm tempted to bid on this one (I have a Swiss friend who is attending the auction as he has his eye on something  ) is this 1950 Sunroof. Most of the cars look like just wrecks but this one looks like it could be saved:

That Kabrio looks a lot cleaner than how yours started out Martin! I don´t doubt all these cars will go for stupid money since they are from the "famous" scrapyard.
If you do, first dibs on the windscreen frame...
What do you need that for Rob? :? Perhaps we should all chip in and get the Cabrio as a spares car? However, to be honest, I think a European will want it for full restoration.

And I think you're right James, I bet some of the prices reached will be amazing. Martin, if your Swiss friend is going, ask him to cut those semaphore boxes out for me... I've got 1st dibs on them, ok? What a place, what an auction. There's even a Tempo Matador in there- George, you're looking for a fresh challenge, something a bit different aren't you?!

As it looks like some of the dates are off, do we think this is a 49 then? Don't know if it's right but the Samba lists that body number as mid- '51.

My split beetle knowledge is about as extensive as that of the variation of the soil acidity of the amazon rainforest but the earliest that can be is a '50 model I think? :?

Does the hole under the bonnet catch give the game away? :? Come on all our Split Beetle experts, where are you?

Does anyone have any updates on this? The auction was at the weekend. Is anything coming over to the UK?

I know that at least a low light ghia is in Belgium now  . And the special bodied split bus is now in Germany. At least what was left of it.

I hope the bus gets restored. I wondered what happened to the 57 Karmann and the green sunroof Beetle. Anyone know about these?
