The police Hebmüllers and Paplers had hand-rail seats as well, I guess they were the cheapest option. The other thing to remember is that not every component on the prototypes was made especially for the car, they took some components from other production cars of the time.
I wonder then if my '47 saloon could have started life as some sort of commercial vehicle, with the Police for example. However, with the police Hebmüllers and Paplers, 1947 would be too early I'd thought.:?

Back then I would have thought the Polizei might have had a priority for getting cars before private customers. Not impossible I suppose.
Earliest police car i could find.
Very interesting pic, George. Being Deluxe based Police cars, I wonder if the seats were a harder wearing material than the cloth 'herringbone' usual type.:? Wonder if the sofa rolls were kept on the back seat. Anyone found a 40s Standard model in this guise with those hand-rail seats.
This must be early '60s, it has flashing indicators Rob. I didn't realise that they ran until so late. (That looks painful with that 'lollipop' there… )
This must be early '60s, it has flashing indicators Rob. I didn't realise that they ran until so late.
Later than that - a friend has a former Polizei `67 "Standard-ish" Cabrio. For sale too if you fancy a project, though it is driveable.
Sorry about tha 1303,but they ran right thru' the aircooled period and then on to watercooled.
Reminds me of Tommy Dobson, what a great guy he was. Oh for those 'early' VW ralles, eh George. Tommy Dobson, Shaun Meehan, Jimmy Murray, Rod Sleigh, Harvey Simpson, Bob Shaill, Tony Levy and Rattletrap………the list goes on.

This was Rich Tricker's '52 Border Police Kab... When it first arrived from Germany. This was the last time I saw it...Stanford Hall 2005. Richard seems to have left the hobby...haven't seen him since 2006. It was up for sale in 2006 for about £30k...don't know if it sold.
This was Rich Tricker's '52 Border Police Kab...
What an interesting car John. The opposite ride to the 'lowered' brigade. I wonder who has that now.:?

Your right about him disappearing from the hobby John, didn't he also have a Kubel he was restoring?
Your right about him disappearing from the hobby John, didn't he also have a Kubel he was restoring?
Yep on the Kubal...he was telling me he'd sourced a lot of parts from the Czech Republic. He also had a '56 Judson Oval and this Split, below...pictured at Stanford Hall 2006, the last time I saw him. Tried his phone number several times but no reply. This Split was up for sale at the time...I'm sure someone here will know it.
What an interesting car John. The opposite ride to the 'lowered' brigade. I wonder who has that now.:?
I'll ask around.

The last I remember was that the Cabrio was on eBay, but didn't make the reserve.
The last I remember was that the Cabrio was on eBay, but didn't make the reserve.
I asked Claus about an hour ago but he didn't know but suggested the Iranian banker. Yes I remember it didn't make its reserve on Ebay.

The Iranian banker, told me a list of his cars when we spoke.Pretty sure he didn't mention the border patrol car.

Update on Rich Tricker. Yes he still has his Border Police Karmann...sold the green '50 split and is working hard to get his Kubal on the road for the summer. He's now happily married so has more calls on his time hence the absence from VW Shows over the last few years.
