The unit looks SWF like the fifties and sixties volkswagens. Only that flat metal part is diffrent. On the early ones the wires are fixed with a screw.

when restoring your car... don't throw ANYTHING away until after you are completely done with the resto. Sometimes the dumbest weird part you thought was nothing... is all that is left of an important seal or something... and you can use it to help figure out how to make a new one. Bag and label everything in plastic ziplock bags.

It is the wiper motor from the donor beetle your Rometsch was made from. Check the Chassis number on your pan... the year of that chassis is the year wiper motor you have. Just glass bead the steel base it is attached to and repaint it... then attach a new wiper motor to it. I researched my 56 Beeskow... and the chassis was originally under a sunroof 56 beetle that left Wolfsburg for a dealer in... wait for it... Berlin! What a surprize. Eric
