Every time I go, I always vow never to go again - but then after the winter, it's the first real show of the year so I usually get the urge to go again. As for one of the best shows of the year, not really a great show for stockers - you can usually count them on one hand, but if you've got wider tastes...

I went to the first one in Birmingham? and been to 2 at Sandown but I just dont like it, I cant be bothered with fighting crowds indoors to look at cars 99% of which I wouldnt want to own anyway, not enough interest for me to go just to see maybe just the 1 or 2 really good stock or original cars that will be there. I have to really want to go to a show that is crowded. Especially Volksworld where every grubby oik drags his greasy chippy hands across other peoples pride & joys :x You must have seen the state of the cars on display there at the end of each day! I would put a razor wire electric fence around them, that would stop the buggers
Stanford Hall is miles better! :d
Owen is going one of the days just to deliver parts. He will be in our dove 65 bus (it will be in the front carpark/for sale area) I have been using it daily recently its so lovely but I am not allowed to keep it as a pet grr!!

Alright Kev,you OK:wink:
A few people have made this remark.
If i found this was the case,i think it would only take the one visit
The thing about Volksworld, the cars might not be to your taste, but you must admit some of the work is of the highest quality.
Therefore you should visit and appreciate what is there.
Finish your stock cars to an equally high standard and apply to exhibit, then it will be more attractive for stock lovers to visit.
Many people complain about the show, but it is literally in your hands to change it.
I know Ivan and the crew won't turn a car away for being stock, it just needs to be well done.

I did not get involved in the general chat about the show as I thought I'd be on for a bashing if I said I have to admire the dedication and 'O.C.D' that goes into the modified cars. I realy do quite like them:oops: , Stock will always rule obviously,:d each to their own and all.
What about the Texas Browm sunroof? and the stock Samba?.......very nice.8)
Shame I was not there today would loved to have chat, I had to work Fri night. I originaly also had to work Sun night too but have managed to book it off. Ivan originaly mentioned puting my 58 on the Volksworld stand but I think I was religated to the lower ranks to facilitate a quick get away on the Sunday for work. (never mind) Still, at least we kept the other stockers company:d

It wasn't until I got home yesterday that I realised who owns the car. It's a chap from London named Rhodrich- he sent me pics of the car last year when he imported it from Sweden. It still had Swedish plates on in the pics and it didn't click that it was the same car.

Nice one Peter. Well deserved.
You just need to get rid of that Mk1 Golf radio and your car will be 100% perfect

A few nice stock cars there this time from the pics on Julian Robinsons site: JR's photos ( I like the red baha! ) and huge congratulations to him for getting that 53 on the road! :d It would have been great to have seen Rhodrich's and the other pastel green restocal 51 sunroof patina car parked side by side? Did you do that? I think that car is looking great too!

You could have spent a bit more time tidying that sunroof too. It was a mess. :?
I was hoping someone would post a picture of my daily driver...it's the red one in the background.

Yeah it was like that when we got it! It is missing the back bar that keeps it held down and fabrication one has been one of those jobs that we keep putting off!

Fair point. He came very close to bagging a (near enough) NOS Unipart sunroof a few months back that would have solved most/some of our problems with that pile of crap! Sadly we missed the sale.
I want to chop it out and let in a Golde but the bastards won't let me!

Don't let the bastards intimidate...Mike Tudor's '53 had his 3 fold grafted in. After all it's just an accessory. I'm sure plenty were added after delivery.

I think it is interesting that of the 3 earliest beetles in the show ( I am assuming as I was'nt there) :
50, 51 & 53, all of them are Swedish, and all are tintops that have had golde sunroofs let in. Also the beige split that was parked outside is a Swedish car too!
Gertie, we have some Golde rear bars that we had made from stainless, I know your roof is Britax and I have not seen it yet to see if it might work. But for me, your Britax makes your car very English and I like it! Golde's are SO common these days
Posted by: Rhodrich - 03 April 2009 11:41:07
The white South African '52 was also on display, and Rich Oakley brought along his '47. I get what you're saying though - cars from Sweden seem to be survivors, and they like their ragtops!
When I was looking for mine, I had a few others on the shortlist - one from Belgium, and another from Germany. The German one had accident damage, so I walked away. The Belgian one was poor value compared to mine. I guess Swedish cars tend to be keener priced, as there are so many there......
Do I care that my car's had a sunroof put in? Anyone who really knows their splits will see that the rails have the black plastic beading, thus showing that the ragtop is from a 1953-1955 car (it's actually from a '53), so it's not hiding anything. As far as I'm concerned, it's been let in properly, having been lead loaded as it was done originally, and transforms the car on a summer's day, so I'm happy!

Yes the Britax is quite unique! Well, thats how I like to think of it!
I do love a proper Golde ragtop but I just feel that I would always find myself saying when someone mentions it "Yes, well, its been let in!"
I dont know I almost think it is trying to make a car seem rarer than it really is! I can see the reasoning if the roof is damaged but with our car the roof was I am led to believe fine but the previous owner wanted it for driving!
Having said that I do absolutely agree that having a ragtop on a day like today is absolute heaven! :d 8)
I do however have no (even though it is not strictly speaking my car  ) urge to remove the ragtop for a solid roof or Golde! The damage has already been done so lets try and enjoy the outcome!

Great vid Rob8) :d
I wonder how much the white split for sale is? I recon the alloys and front beam would fetch enough ££'s to replace with originals.
I looked at the mango green & white split:shock: It loked to me as though the owner had rubbed down perfecly good paint to bare steel to give the 'weathered look' every body seems so stuck on at the mo ...bonkers:!:
An old bug or bus is great, but to accelerate the aging process is just dumb.

Mine is an original sunroof, it's not been let in :(

Are you the one whose Father-in-law was the Nigerian Finance Minister? He died in mysterious circumstances before he was able to transfer his fortune of $5,000,000. It was a heart-wrending story, you had my wife and I in tears:!:

I am surprised that Lego dont make a more wing shaped lego brick these days, they seem to push out every shape now that makes lego modelling far too easy. I remember when it was all fields and lego only came in basic brick shapes, we used to consider the tiny single block special back then. Then space lego arrived and it was clear that life would never be the same again  the new uber cool 'coloured transparent bits' and dont even mention the excitement of the first appearance of the axle block & rubber tyres that my little brother loved to eat!!!
Posted by: Rich Oakley - 20 April 2009 00:32:20
That pic of the Amoses is great! (Is that the correct plural for an 'Amos?')
Anna- The rubber tyres in lego sets were always the tastiest parts. I can vouch for your brother's taste in potentially poisonous plastic paraphernalia.
