The forum was taken down last night following a thread that descended into what can only be described as an online fight. I can't begin to tell you how disheartening this is after spending so much time building the site, it really made me question why I bother. It is also extremely damaging to the site as it puts people off joining or taking part.
People have different opinions, that's what makes forums interesting - if everyone agreed all the time then what would be the point? However, I really have no interest in being the policeman for people who can't control their keyboard.
So the forum is back online, a lot has been deleted and my enthusiasm has been dented.
Thanks,
Rob

As Anna says above Rob, your dedication to this site does not go unnoticed.
Pre67 is a great site with really good thread's, contributors and data on it and I look forward to reading the latest every day and enjoy the banter.
I'm sure those naughty boys didn't mean to "go public" with their comments but don't take it too heart as life's too short for all that.
BTW - tks for the shirt. It will shortly be winging it's way here so you'll see a photo of pre67vw in the Middle East soon!

Nope, I liked it too. I was sat here last night looking at the frequency gratings on my TFT monitor thinking to myself "This is quite possibly the first time I've ever seen those gratings so clear and well defined". :D

Sh*t happens sometimes mate, don't let it get you down. You do a great job running this forum and the on-line VW community would be a far less interesting place without pre67.

Hi
Wouldn't have minded the test card if that funny music was on.
Couldn't believe it when it was down, I had to watch big brother!!
Perhaps the offending elements should read Hello or Juicy Weekly they would then realise what a fantastic forum it is.
Long may it continue!!

Yes, it's a shame that the forum sometimes becomes a place for people to wash their private dirty knickers in front of everyone else, even though we may all have disagreements. After all, we are here to enjoy and share the subject. Serious fights should remain in the domain of personal emails. But Rob, you really have an attractive, serious and interesting site which keeps drawing national and international interest and we should thank you for keeping it together that way.

We are all oddballs one way or another
If it was not for our strong passion, then we would not even meet here!
The more passion, the more potential friction ( ask me I am an expert  )
But I for one am glad none of us are dull!
50karmann and Mr RT you are cornerstones of pre67..
But if you can't (at least pretend to) be friends then I will be forced to get the boat out..

People outside this hobby which is about 99.99% of the population think that Beetle enthusiasts are oddballs, sad or even wierd individuals who are unable to socialise, mix or form normal relationships. I've heard these comments, even read these comments. Ken Livingstone famously said just such a thing about old bus enthusiast. The normal activity is considered an obsession with football, standing down the pub and talking about same each evening and weekend.

I agree, I am sure all of us have at least 1 or 2 people in the stock scene that we really just dont like as people. I mean their actual personality regardless of their level of car knowledge. I know I do ( ok just 1 for me)
I think it is an acceptable percentage. No one can like everyone all of the time!
And I am entirely happy in the knowledge that a few people might have me on that list...because, I care not!
My post was a joke, you know I just want you both here whether you want to be or not! :d

I and others here are trying to smooth things for the good of this website – that we should all get along.
So why do you go off having a rummage through past posts looking for dirt?
I guess this is the part of my post to which you refer:
…Its Tony and Rattletrap not Standard T**t and Rattletrap and will always be so in my mind.
Okay a bit harsh, but then apparently this donkey went off the rails, wreaking havoc on the forums engaging in an online fight 'with someone' last week…

Why did you oblique the word 'Rattletrap' from my copy? Its rather sad, besmirching Tony Levy's car.
He did more for for the early Beetle movement in this counrty with that car than anyone on these forums could ever hope to manage. He helped lay the foundations that we all stand on. He was notching up the publicity and creating interest in vintage Beetles long before you were a thought I expect

I've checked again... there is approx 65 miles between the IP address that Ovaltine uses and the IP that Standard Split uses. Maybe Standard Split has a country retreat in cambridgeshire or they really are two different people...
