Why such a strong anti lowering sentiment here? :?: I mean, I can see it when its stupidly, car wreckingly low, but wheres the harm otherwise? Making the car sit nicely is far more important to me than seeing how many roofracks and Coke coolers you can hang off your car! Will I still be welcome here if I lower my Kabrio a bit at the front and fit early Fuchs wheels?

Posted by: JD - 14 July 2006 12:26:15
rear
Very nice! More like this please!!
Will I still be welcome here if I lower my Kabrio a bit at the front and fit early Fuchs wheels?
no.  Are baja bugs welcome on resto-cal sites? are super-bugs welcome on pre '53 sites?

Posted by: aussie64 - 14 July 2006 12:57:36
ladies please i will be doing my split very orig. so i can still hang cool Paul :P
:( It won't cease to be an early Kab though. And those wheels are nearly 40 years old too! my point is really only this - why are new repro roof racks and bug deflectors considered acceptable and 40year old wheels not? Better tell Jules to go as well!

Each to their own and all that of course, after Camberg '03 the site took a sharp turn towards the vintage side of things with an emphasis on cars with stock height and stock wheels (it was always slightly that way inclined anyway). Thats the way I'd like to keep going and thats the reason for the anti-lowering sentiment that is shared amongst every hardcore vintage freak I meet.

I think Rob need to change the line on the home page to "The home of stock vintage aircooled Volkswagens" It's not that people who have lowered cars arn't welcome (I have one too) but the site is all about stock, vintage aircooled Volkswagens. You are allowed to like more than one style or model of VW you know!

Posted by: pre67vw - 14 July 2006 15:13:25
Now lets not have any more talk of lowering thank you

Posted by: JD - 14 July 2006 16:59:55
Oh go on...! :D Stock, eh? Better delete that Vintage Speed forum then Rob!! Its all a double standard, i tells ya! They're all against me!! :D (Lucky I didn't mention my plans for the whale tail and moulding the wings onto the car with an inch and a half of filler! Are murals considered passé these days?)

Posted by: pre67vw - 14 July 2006 17:05:20
what about: The home of stock vintage aircooled Volkswagens & other stuff I like  it is a double standard sometimes, I agree.

seriously though, don't wreck your car by lowering it and putting fuch wheels on it. It doesn't get much better than these:

Oh yes it does........ But then again I am slightly biased.

Shame that some speed crazy hot rodder has wrecked the one in the foreground by fitting a four tip exhaust! Ruddy `ooligans! The kind of wreck that I am actually trying to avoid is the kind that involves crossply tyres and trying to take a corner at more than 12mph in the wet! That will do nothing for the cause of vehicle preservation either. I do intend to actually drive this car a few miles, not just keep it as a museum piece. Nothing against museum pieces - they have their place..... Its funny, but when I look at the pics of the gold oval on the thread here, the first thing that I (and I would think most of the non car loving general public) see is a really nicely restored old car. Sure, it has a few "wrong" bits on it, but that takes nothing away from it IMHO. Anyway, I'll leave it there. I know I'm in the minority here!

Posted by: pre67vw - 17 July 2006 22:52:07
You may be in the minority here but you're definetly in the majority of the rest of the VW 'scene' (I hate that word) I've had a few lowered VW's, and I can tell you from experience what the general public thinks of them - "excuse me mate, I think your suspension is broken". - or if you happen to be giving someone a lift its "why is this ride so bad?" And yes, the owner of that particular car is a real hoodlum - its got a genuine Okrasa engine in it. Naughty boy.

Posted by: JD - 18 July 2006 12:33:35
LOL - I hate "scene" too. I must not be true "dubber" then. (looks in vain for "barf" smiley!!)
