Hi Mr Triumph
you could try Roger Bray in Exeter as up to 1957 the 356 Porsche used mildly tweaked VW steering boxes, failing that there is NLA in the 'States I don't have an address but try Googling it, they have a large range of 356 parts, meanwhile have you made sure the box isn't just over filled as it seems a bit odd its coming out the top, and you obmitted to mention pinching up the horse shoe clip on the handbrake lever, best of luck Bill.

Yep - I did remember to pinch up the horseshoes!
Just stripped down the steering box - it's like new in there! It wasn't over filled.
The upper seal is actually below the fill level believe it or not so can easily leak.
Amazingly, it't a weird kind of seal that looks like a bearing on the outside, but has a fury fibre type affair to seal against the steering shaft and that;s where it was leaking from.
I've got a ton of photo's of it all, but they'll have to wait until tomorrow as I need to get to bed.
Thanks all - I'll find a way, I always do!
